# How RecBaba Privacy Works — Local by Default

> How RecBaba keeps screen recordings local by default, requires no account to edit, and only uploads when you explicitly choose to share.

## Local by default

The extension writes the video to the computer — in the browser's origin-private file system (OPFS). Recording does not send the file to a server. The editor reads that local file. There is no upload in that handoff. The overlay is injected only into the page you record. A capture handle, when the page allows it, identifies the chosen tab to this extension alone. The extension does not run remote code.

## No account required for editing

Trim, cut, text overlays, and export run in the browser. Captions and music mixing also stay on-device; they are Pro and Max. You can download without creating an account.

## Explicit upload

The only way a recording leaves the device is Share in the editor. If you are not signed in, Share asks you to log in or create an account first. The upload happens after that.

## Sharing controls

- Unguessable private links.
- Optional password (Pro).
- Optional expiration (hosted share links are on Pro and Max).
- Optional download block (Pro).
- Instant revoke.

Shared pages are marked so search engines do not index them. There is no public directory.

## Deletion

Delete one recording to remove the hosted file immediately. Delete the account from Settings to remove uploaded recordings, brand-kit logos, and end sessions. RecBaba does not store share-page contact-form leads. A short grace period applies to full account removal.

## Sign-in and Google Drive

You can sign in with Google or with email and password. We do not store your Google password. Drive is a separate permission for files this app creates. The file goes browser to Google. An encrypted refresh token is stored on RecBaba so a short-lived access token can be minted in the browser.

## AI after Share

Generate AI after Share sends extracted audio from the uploaded file to a speech-to-text provider. That does not run on record, edit, or export. Editor captions stay on-device. Summary and chapters are Pro and Max and need a ready transcript.
