# How to Record in 4K on Chrome — Free, No Watermark, No Login

Most “4K screen recorder” tools for Chrome either watermark the file, ask for an account before you press stop, or start an upload the moment the take ends. RecBaba does none of those. ## What you need

- Google Chrome (or another Chromium browser where the extension is allowed to run).
- The RecBaba extension from the Chrome Web Store. You do not need an account to install or record.
- A display that can output 4K if you want a native 4K capture. You can still select 4K on a 1080p screen; the result is upscaled and usually not worth the extra file size.

## Native pixels vs. a 4K label

A 4K file is only as sharp as the pixels Chrome can see. On a 4K display, tab, window, and screen captures can be native Ultra HD. On a 1080p laptop, choosing 4K stretches those pixels. YouTube and other hosts will still call it 4K, but the extra bitrate buys you a larger file, not more detail. Match capture resolution to the display you are showing, then let the destination encode what you actually captured.

## Record in 4K, step by step

1. Install RecBaba from the Chrome Web Store and pin the icon if you want it one click away.
2. Open the page, window, or screen you want to show. Click the extension — the overlay stays on the page you are demonstrating.
3. Choose Tab, Window, or Screen. Tab is best for a website walkthrough. Window or Screen is better when the work lives outside the browser.
4. Set quality to 4K. You can pick 30fps or 60fps. 4K is included on the free plan.
5. Turn the microphone and system (or tab) audio on or off. Both can be mixed into the same file.
6. Click Start recording. Pause and resume if you need to. When you stop, the file is saved on this computer — the editor opens it from local storage. Nothing is uploaded.

## What happens to the file

The original capture is a WebM on your device. From the editor you can trim, crop, add text overlays, and export an MP4 — still locally, still without an account. Captions and music mixing stay on-device too; they are included on Pro and Max. Sharing a link is a later button. If you never click Share, we never receive a copy.

There is no watermark on the export. 4K is on the free plan, with a 5-minute Free-plan cap at that height so a long 4K take cannot fill the disk unnoticed. Those promises match how the product is built.

## When 4K is the wrong default

A bug clip of a checkout page rarely needs 4K. 1080p at 30fps is the recorder’s default because it is enough for most UI, and the file stays small. Use 4K when the screen is dense — a design file, a spreadsheet, a video you will publish — or when you already know the destination wants Ultra HD.

## If the overlay cannot run

Some Chrome settings URLs block the in-page overlay. RecBaba falls back to a recorder page on recbaba.com. Capture still happens in the browser, and the file is still local. You are not sent to a cloud encoder.
